Is this a "weed?" Pictures for Elizabeth

I just saw this post over at Eli's Place, in which she wonders if she has a lousy weed... or a useful gem.

My vote is on the latter.

Here's some photographic proof from last year's garden, in which I let one of those mystery weeds go to bloom:

Butterflies, bees, ladybugs, wasps... every pollinator and insect you can imagine hangs out on these plants. They bloom late and grow about 6'+ in my yard.

As ID'ed in the comments on Eli's post, it's a Eupatorium serotinum.

Definitely a "keep."

Thanks so much for the pictures, David. To have it identified was great . . . but to know it attracts birds and butterflies is even better. Your blog remains a wealth of information!

I think I just have a thing for weeds and women in distress...
