Crash Gardening, Episode 1: A Zillion Ways To Garden

Introducing the very first episode of my new survival gardening video series in which I talk about why I don't like raised beds, how to grow pineapples, gardening in containers and a whole lot more.

A big thanks to Jeffrey Greene for the cinematography and to his wife Alena for standing around and being pretty. Filming conditions were rough: it was raining and the light was poor, but we still pulled it off.

More episodes coming soon.

David,

Congratulations on your first episode. I enjoyed the explosive introduction. I thought maybe you were going to blow up those raised beds. I wish I could grow pineapples in upstate NY! Looking forward to episode # 2…..

You actually can grow them by bringing the pots indoors for the winter. They're like airplants... they need almost no soil. Probably not worth it though, considering the wonderful temperate fruit you can grow up there. Wish I could pull off gooseberries down here...

Oh man! The camera didn't get close enough to actually see the baby pineapple. And yes, I have impaled my face peering into pineapples.

Now I want to grow kale in giant cereal bowls!
