Why Does this Terrify Me?

Is it because I like dirt that this nerves me out?

Or is it because this:

i get that LEDs are super energy efficient, but you still have to generate the power to run them...and if you're using solar, you might as well just grow plants right there. we have a ton of land and ocean that has great sun exposure and we could be growing there too, instead of thinking up more creative means to use fossil fuels.
or how about fix up the population curve, so we aren't elbow to elbow, eating soupy matrix-like amino acid watery meals?

Totally. The mis-use of current resources is RIDICULOUS. Just tear out the lawns. Or start by tearing out city hall, then moving on to lawns.

I don't have a problem with the population curve, provided people get smart about their usage of resources. The waste is incredible. Totally incredible. It would take a lot more people to get to the elbow-to-elbow stage... and by then, hopefully we're terraforming Mars. YEAH!

Yes, it really is ludicrous how much elaborate work we do in the modern world rather than make simple, obvious choices. It's the 20th-century disease, still lingering, I think. The one where we buy labor-saving devices so we don't have to work, and then we buy labor-creating devices because our muscles aren't working enough. The one where we get fat from eating too much prepackaged food, so we subscribe to some expensive prepackaged diet plan to fix that problem. Or, as in the case of a neighbor's friend, the one where we have an orange tree in our front yard, yet refuse to eat them, instead buying perfectly-polished, gassed, flavorless oranges from the grocery store.
